Ottava Via
About This Spot
Stepping into Ottava Via feels like an invitation to slow down and savor the moment—a welcome respite tucked along the vibrant stretch of Michigan Avenue. The air hums softly with the quiet buzz of conversation and the clink of glasses, creating an atmosphere that’s both comfortably familiar and quietly refined. There’s an unhurried rhythm here, where the bustle of Detroit outside gently melts away into shared stories and the rich aromas wafting from the kitchen.
This Italian restaurant strikes a harmonious balance between warmth and an understated elegance, the kind where a well-tended table and attentive service make you feel as though you’ve discovered a neighborhood refuge shared among friends. Whether you find yourself at the lively bar sampling thoughtfully crafted cocktails or tucked into a cozy booth, the mood remains welcoming and unpretentious, inviting you to settle in and truly enjoy your evening.
The kitchen whispers stories of tradition and thoughtful innovation through every bite. Plates arrive thoughtfully composed yet unpretentious—where the indulgence of melted pecorino cheeses or the earthiness of truffle butter pasta never feels overdone, but rather a natural extension of care and craftsmanship. Small bites like roasted garlic with goat cheese or delicate arancini provide textured, inviting ways to start the evening, while each handmade pasta and wood-fired pizza brings warmth that feels both comforting and celebratory.
Ottava Via’s ambiance is a space where the little, human moments linger—a shared laugh over the saltiness of a perfectly balanced ragù, the clinking of glasses as new friends toast, and the easy presence of staff who genuinely enjoy guiding guests through a thoughtfully curated menu. It’s a reminder that dining here isn’t just about food, but about gathering around a table that invites connection, flavor, and the kind of quiet joy found in familiar rituals reimagined.

We arrived early to our reservation and had a seat at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. The Jack Sparrow cocktail was perfect for my tastes and had great presentation. When we were seated, we had an extremely friendly and charismatic waiter who made sure we were well taken care of throughout the entire night. Our food was absolutely delicious—we ordered the bread service and a caesar salad to share, and for our entrees we got the pesto pasta and the penne alla arrabbiata. Not a single critique for the food, service, or the environment! We can’t wait to come back!

Was looking to do sort of a chef's tasting but also wanted pasta and well Italian places don't normally do them so after looking at the menu we decided to stop in and create our own. We wanted 4 small plates and an entree, but due to sourcing and an uptick in the price of imports 1 of the small plates wasn't available. Anyway, we still put together a nice dinner that didn't over fill us and allowed us to get enough food vibes about the place that we'll definitely go back. Service was outstanding even though she was seated 3 tables at almost the same time. Slight delay on our beverage order, but that actually turned into a good thing because it gave us enough time to discuss everything we were interested in. Also it was totally understandable. Two minor complaints. 1. It's very loud in there. 2. After dinner espresso was not a full espresso shot, and was overly strong compared to most places. Fine for me, but my partner did not find it enjoyable.

I thought I was in Detroit, but somehow ended up back in Italy. We had the goat cheese and bread dish and arancini for apps. As well as Cacio e Pepe and bolognese for the main dish - just wow. The food is truly amazing. I would imagine you could not go wrong with any item on the menu. Absolutely worth the hour drive - will for sure be back

Our first time here, we will definitely come back. We had the roasted garlic and goat cheese small plate as an appetizer. My wife had the Bolognese and the handmade noodles just melt in your mouth. I had the bisteca and patate which was done properly, tasty chimichurri, but the steak was a little tough. Our server, Lauren, was the best. Enthusiastic about the menu, attentive, and very friendly.

The service was great (s/o to Steffanie). The food was okay. My mocktail was a little bitter but after a shot of simple syrup I was able to drink it. The pasta was a decent portion. I couldn't even eat half. I really enjoyed sitting outside as it was a little chilly in the restaurant. I saw my first black squirrel while eating lunch. He even got super close to my foot. I almost left my hot plate .

I love this place! I may even be addicted The Fungus pizza is AMAZING I love the different mushrooms and cheese, sauce is super and the bread is so good I added Italian sausage and it was super good, I asked for napkins so I could eat a slice on my way home. If you love mushrooms it's a must have!!

We had a great dinner last night - there was a good amount of people there on a weeknight; regulars hanging out at the bar, groups having dinner, it has a really homey feel. Christmas music was playing for the season and it's decorated so festively! I want to come back before Christmas just to enjoy the pretty lights and cheerful atmosphere. Service was excellent and our food was delicious and perfectly cooked. We had the garlic shrimp appetizer which comes with a roasted half of lemon and 4 large slices of buttered toasty bread so sop up all the lemon butter sauce - I will order that every time. It's awesome and the shrimp were very flavorful and perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Caesar salad which was easy to split between 2 people, and I LOVE the fried soft egg and salty high quality sardine fillets. It was perfectly dressed and just a great Caesar salad. If you added protein, it would make a nice meal. We then each had pastas - hubby had the Arribiata penne with sausage and chicken - it has the best roasted broccolini in it, and was delicious. I had the ragout alla bolognese and everything about it was savory and perfect, topped with ricotta. We both even had enough to take home. I highly recommend this neighborhood joint that's cranking out top notch Italian food. We will be back soon.

After we decided against ordering drinks, there was a noticeable shift in the service. We were in and out under a half hour. Still tipped 20% though. If you want an appetizer, you can't go wrong with the bread service! The pasta alfredo is absolutely delicious. I wouldn't recommend adding the chicken since it took away from this incredible dish. Also the noise level on a Friday night is significant to the point it was difficult to hold a conversation. The place is absolute gorgeous and they did a beautiful job decorating for Christmas!
